While we are all practicing social distancing, what do we do to keep our families safe at home? This post will show you how to keep your home clean and safe for your family.
It’s hard to believe what we are going through right now. The only thing that helps is we are all going through it together.
This is such an awful time that we are facing in the world today. Let’s try and make it a little less stressful. At least in our own homes.
Even though most of us are practicing social distancing and working from home, some of us are not. You may be an essential worker or going grocery shopping or walking the dog. And of course, we do want to go outside to stretch our legs and breathe some fresh air!
What do we do when we come back from outside?
How do we keep ourselves protected from bringing germs inside our homes?
The government is recommending cleaning all heavily used traffic areas. I will help you to understand what those areas are and how often you should be cleaning.
I know we can’t control what’s going on outside, but we can have a little inside our homes. A tiny bit of peace of mind will help-I hope!
How To Keep Your Home Clean
Don’t worry this doesn’t mean that you have to deep clean your home every time someone leaves and comes back!

All you have to do is to remember the heavy traffic areas of your home. The places in your home that are touched frequently. For example, light switches, door knobs, phone screens, remotes, etc…

Safe Cleaning Practices At Home
As I stated above this is not a deep clean! If you want help with that you can check out my post below and download the checklist above.
We only need to concentrate on the high traffic areas of our home.
Grab your favourite cleaner or disinfectant and wipe down the following areas below. You can download a printable pdf so you can have a copy for yourself later.
High Traffic Areas Of Your Home
- light switches
- door knobs
- bank cards
- phone/tablet screens
- remote controls
- fridge handles
- kitchen and bathroom cupboard doors
- kitchen and bathroom faucets and taps
- corners of walls
The areas above, plus any extra that you may consider necessary in your home, are important to clean once a day. At least!
If you have someone leaving the home to work, make sure they take the proper steps to take care of themselves when they are outside and especially when they come home.

How To Keep Your Home Clean: Prevent The Spread Of Covid-19
Taken from the WHO Website. You can protect yourself and help prevent spreading the virus to others if you:
- Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub
- Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze
- Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell
- Stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell
- Touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands are not clean
